About Eske (Romée) Ruijters
Hi, I'm Eske (Romée), founder of ROMEE for women, a health scientist (MSc), and a certified therapist specializing in women's health and hormonal issues.
In addition to my academic background and clinical experience, I also know from personal experience what it’s like to live with hormonal symptoms. When I was eighteen, I was diagnosed with PCOS (PMOS). After years of self-exploration and delving deeper into the science and practice, I came to understand my body better and better and was able to get my hormonal symptoms under control.
Through my work with women in my own practice, I have seen how much nutrition and lifestyle, in the broadest sense of the word, can help reduce and even resolve hormonal symptoms. This has only strengthened my motivation to share my knowledge and help as many women as possible.
In the gynecology department, I saw hundreds of women with hormonal symptoms. I thought: Surely the birth control pill and advice to lose weight can’t be the solution for everyone and for all symptoms? I decided to take matters into my own hands. I noticed that many women were left with unanswered questions about the role of lifestyle and underlying factors that might contribute to their symptoms.
While studying Health Sciences (MSc) at VU University Amsterdam, I became fascinated by how the human body works. I took a minor in neuroscience and eventually specialized in nutrition. At the same time, I worked for several years at a medical center specializing in gynecology and dermatology, where I assisted doctors, analyzed lab results, and held independent consultation hours.
Gradually, I realized that health is about more than just nutrition and exercise. To further deepen my knowledge, I began a four-year supplemental program. In this program, I explored how psychology (thoughts, feelings, and emotions), nutrition, exercise, and the social environment influence health and illness.
